Proposed Itinerary – Private custom Slovenia hike
Day 1: ARRIVAL DAY, LJUBLJANA
Pick up at the airport. Check into your hotel, meet & greet at 3pm, followed by a visit of the old part of the city. The quaint, narrow streets along the left bank of the Ljubljanica River, with its medieval bridges, are reminiscent of Prague without the crowds. The old town is dominated by the 16th century fortifications of Ljubljana Castle.
Ancient buildings and monuments are nestled in the heart of this medieval city. Due to its strategic situation in central Europe, Ljubljana has witnessed many cultural and architectural influences over the centuries.

Day 2: VELIKA PLANINA PLATEAU – LOGARSKA VALLEY
We head north to the Great Highlands, where preserved shepherds’ wooden huts tell of highland life long ago.
The special shape of the buildings with their conical roofs is unique for this area and some of them date well back to ancient times. The hike is on gentle terrain through the alpine pastures rich in wildflowers, flanked by limestone peaks of the Kamnisko- Savinjske Alps.
We enjoy our picnic overlooking the valley accompanied by the sound of cowbells. We might even have a chance to try a bit of local fresh cheese and sour-milk. After the hike we drive to the Nature Park Logarska Valley, situated right on the Austrian border.

Day 3: LOGARSKA VALLEY – MOUNT RADUHA
Today we hike up to Mt. Raduha’s ridge high above Logarska Valley, which is situated on the border with Slovenia and Austria. This Eastern part of the Kamnisko-Savinjske Alps has been untouched by human development. We do a loop-hike with views to the Slovenian and Austrian side. The whole region is archaeologically speaking very interesting, as they found several tools and artifacts dating back 30,000 years that belonged to Stone Age hunters.

Day 4: LOGARSKA VALLEY – RINKA WATERFALL & OKRESELJ
The secluded valley of Logarska is a place of contrasts: jagged white limestone peaks towering over a lush green valley, which is home to our charming Alpine hotel. The valley of Logarska with its clear mountain air and fertile soil has become a popular escape for Slovenians, who moved here for a quieter lifestyle.
We hike up on a fairy-tale trail to the Mt. Okreselj amphitheatre and then onwards to the Rinka waterfall.
This remote corner of Slovenia is virtually untouched, thanks to Austrian nobility who prohibited access to many areas for hunting purposes.
Even today, the landscape remains pristine, and is one of our favourite areas in Slovenia to hike in.

Day 5: LOGARSKA VALLEY – AUSTRIA, BLED
Today we say good-bye to the Logarska Valley and continue to the “Jewel of the Slovenian Alps”, Lake Bohinj. We follow a spectacular mountain road which offers great views over the Kamniske Alps. And just for a few moments, we hike into Austria before coming back to Slovenia on the Jezersko Pass.
We stop at Lake Bled and visit the Vintgar Gorge with its crystal-clear waters, then head to Bled for some free time to explore the lake, the castle and the church. We continue on to the Pokljuka plateau and stay overnight in a charming, family-owned farm.

Day 6: POKLJUKA PLATEAU HIKE – MOUNT BRDO
A short morning drive brings us to the Pokljuka plateau, located at the foothills of the Julian Alps. We have just entered Triglav National Park – a source of great pride for Slovenia. The dense forest of Pokljuka is covered with blueberry bushes, and in the autumn it is a popular place for picking porcini mushrooms.
We carry on to Mt. Brdo, from which we have superb views of Slovenia’s highest mountain, Mt Triglav (2864m).

Day 7: TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK – VODNIK HUT – MT TOSC – LAKE BONHINJ
In the early morning we start hiking high into the heart of Triglav National Park. We stop at Konjsicca where shepherds spend summers with their cattle and continue on to Vodnik hut for a hearty lunch. After lunch we turn back and end our day on the shores of Lake Bohinj.
Bohinj is an area with picturesque villages nestled near the lake, and offers a perfect base for treks and a variety of outdoor activities in Triglav National Park.

Day 8: LAKE BOHINJ – REST DAY
Starting off the day, we have free time to swim and relax at the lake, go for shorter walks, or take a canoe-trip around the lake to explore all the secluded beaches. Another option is to travel back by bus to Bled if you want to spend more time there, as the bus journey takes approx. 30 minutes.
Free for lunch and dinner.

Day 9: BOHINJ – VRSIC PASS – LJUBLJANA
Today we traverse part of the Julian Alps en route to the legendary Vrsic pass (1625m). The pass used to be the border between Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Alpine flowers are in abundance, and the views are breathtaking. We hike to Sleme and onwards to our lunch spot, next to a charming small glacier lake. From the pass we hike back to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia’s main ski area and then onwards to Ljubljana for our last night.

Departure for the airport. Ljubljana the Slovenian capital, has become one of the hippest cities in Europe. It is fairly small – you can explore most of the town´s sights on foot and yet so cosmopolitan you can hear a variety of languages while walking along lovely Ljubljanica river. Lively with bars, cafes and art galleries, the green city of Ljubljana is a great alternative to other big, crowded European capitals.
